Since they opened their doors, which seems like maybe getting on 6 or so years ago, Black Coffee Roasting Company has generously given Total Fest a pretty significant bunch of cash and coffee. But, fundamentally, I think if you need a reason to drink Black Coffee, you should look no further than the product they offer: that's locally roasted, small-batch, organic coffee. And, I'll go one step further and say Black Coffee took me, a guy who thought of himself as a coffee fan, to a whole new level of enjoyment. Their stuff is simply more fresh, more delicious and more varied than any roaster for miles and miles in any direction.


So, what's going on with them and Total Fest this year? Well, Black Coffee typically does a special roast called Total Black to help celebrate Total Fest. They've done that again this year, and it's on sale currently in Missoula. Also, if you stop into the shop, which is located in Missoula at 525 E. Spruce, and buy a bag of Total Black directly from the source, you have a pretty strong chance of winning a full Total Fest pass in your bag of coffee. They're releasing five of the Total Fest Golden Ticket this week, and the only way you can win one is to pick up Total Black from the source.

That's only happening this week, Monday, August 3rd through Friday, August 7th. You know what to do.

Folks are aware that Total Fest is an all ages deal and that's possible because businesses like Biga Pizza, Big Dipper, Betty's Divine, Zombie Tools, Shakespeare and Company, and Black Coffee Roasting Company and KettleHouse, Piece of Mind, The Missoula Independent, Ear Candy and Philly West (etc. etc.!) all actually break out their checkbooks and underwrite a fair amount of the costs of running this thing. Certainly, one has choices when it comes to clothing/feeding oneself, choosing a cup or bag of coffee, picking a katana, grabbing a beer or a record, newspaper, etc. 

And may we be so bold as to suggest that as a Total Fest show-goer, 1) you're the beneficiary of a pretty solid heap of Missoula-flavored community support; and 2) you can show your support by showing our supporters your support in return.

Frankly, you'll be getting better pizza/beer/coffee/clothes/cheez-steaks/books/katanas in the process, and you'll be showing some appreciation for the killer local businesses that make Total Fest all-ages, and possible at all. Each Total Fest poster lists the businesses that help Total Fest happen, so if you're from here or not, and like what Total Fest is/does, please vote with your wallet!

DRINKIN' BLACK COFFEE (STARIN' AT THE WALLS)
As y'all know, we have no shame when it comes to the awesome local businesses that help us with Total Fest. There's a good reason for that, well, lots of good reasons. Black Coffee Roasting Co.'s been in business for a handful of years now, and they've always stepped up with their delicious joe, both hot and iced for our Saturday Record Swap.

And here's the thing: this coffee is f*cking great. Pardon our expletive, you know, but it really is. The AM blend's got a brightness that cuts through a morning fog like a hot knife through errr, butter (and pardon the tired old saw too). They do a good handful of regular blends and roasts, and rotate seasonally all kinds of unique and interesting stuff through. It's organic, and fresh as hell too. I didn't realize what a difference freshness made, until I bought some Yubanese and realized how you have to choke that sh*t down in comparison. You don't need much good coffee, and keeping your dollars in the local economy's a nice thing. We recommend starting with a bag of AM, and getting some Vinyl if you've got an espresso machine, PM if you're a decaffer, and some of the Rwandan if you dig fruitiness. One can't go wrong.

This year, Black Coffee stepped up to the plate with Total Black, Total Fest's own signature dark roast. And they're giving Total Fest cash from each sale, to help cover the various related expenses of doing this thing. Stores of this delicious stuff are starting to dwindle, but there should be some at a couple of their retail spots, which include Total Fest sponsors like the Good Food Store and Le Petit Outre in Missoula. Side note, Matt McQ. co-owner of BCRC plays in Spirit Hole, a good-time Missoula psychedelic group who're playing the August 30th Total Fest Residency at the VFW. Take heed!
